Workshops

General Information

Making art is an ideal way to quiet one’s mind and tap into the creative right-side of our brain, consequently, art offers the same benefits as meditation. When art is used as a meditative practice it is possible to obtain a flow state of mind, also known as, being in the zone. My workshops provide an opportunity to learn various techniques and test drive materials as we explore creating your own personal artistic meditation practice. Our ultimate goal at each workshop is to immerse ourselves in the creation of various works of art and focus on the enjoyment of the processes as a means for relaxation.

Kitchen Table Art Workshops (KTAW)

These are on-line open studios intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation in the safety of our homes while being socially and artistically connected. After a short meditation to get our creative flow moving and then a demo of the process and techniques we will work together in an on-line meeting. Participants are asked to help create an atmosphere where we all feel open to relax, exchange conversation and inspire each other’s individual freedom of expression. So – let’s say yes to our creativity by coming together online to make art!

I hope to return to in-person workshops soon, so stay tuned.

Each workshop experience is unique. A limited number of special kits that contains materials and tools to create during the workshop is supplied. Artists are welcome to add their own tools and materials and will sometimes be asked to supply items such as paint or other items that are commonly found around their home.

A supply list is also provided for participants who do not receive one of the kits so you can gather your own materials.

The workshops are for adult and young adult artists, non-artists, and emerging creatives from all fields. No prior art experience is necessary, but experienced artists may self select how they would like to proceed after my initial demonstration.

Making Marks with Cold Wax: A unique painting technique.

Date: Sunday, November 14, 2021

Time & Location: 4-6 PM on Zoom

Registration Deadline: November 3. Register here.

Cold wax painting is a sculptural painting technique that uses cold wax medium with oil paint. We will approach it as an abstract and experimental painting method, but this method can also be used in representational and other painting applications.

The cold wax medium thickens the paint and creates a texture, transparency, and visual depth that is like encaustic painting, but without the use of heat. It is a brushless technique; marks can be made with whatever strikes your fancy.

Upon registration everyone who signs up will receive the Zoom link, a supply list, and instructions on how best to set up their work area.

The first 12 Wrentham residents who register will receive a kit of materials to use in the workshop. Everyone else who registers can put together their own kit from the provided supply list. All participants will provide their own small tubes of oil paint, oil solvent, and painter’s tape, as well as, other tools and materials for applying paint and making marks that can be found in your home or easily at local stores. A kit is not required to participate.

The Wrentham Cultural Council, an agency of the Mass Cultural Council, is providing funding for this Kitchen Table Art Workshop.

Master Class Workshop Series

This series will focus on four Master Contemporary Artists. The featured artists are El Anatsui, Elizabeth Murray, William Wegman, and Katharina Grosse.

The workshops will be an opportunity for participants to experience the creative process of the featured artist through a hands on at-home art project. Making art based on the style and medium of the featured artist changes our perspective of the artist’s technique, our appreciation of the artist’s work, and encourages us to stretch our imagination. The workshops are on Zoom on Monday nights from 7:30-8:30 PM. Registration is on Eventbrite through the Franklin Cultural Council who is hosting the series.  A supply list will be posted here on this website for review before each workshop. Most materials for the workshop can be found at home or at an art supply store (on-line or curbside pickup) or even at a supermarket.

Click here for info and to register.

April 5 – El Anatsui
April 12 – Elizabeth Murray
April 19 – William Wegman
