Making Marks in Cold Wax – Hosted by the Wrentham Cultural Council

Cold wax painting is a sculptural painting technique that uses cold wax medium with oil paint. We will approach it as an abstract and experimental painting method, but this method can also be used in representational and other painting applications.

Gamblin Artists Color

The cold wax medium thickens the paint and creates a texture, transparency, and visual depth that is like encaustic painting, but without the use of heat. It is a brushless technique; marks can be made with whatever strikes your fancy.

Upon registration everyone who signs up will receive the Zoom link, a supply list, and instructions on how best to set up their work area.

No experience is necessary. A kit is not required to participate. The first 12 Wrentham residents who register will receive a kit of materials to use in the workshop. Everyone else who registers can put together their own kit from the provided supply list. Wrentham residents please register by November 3rd to allow time to be notified about whether you will receive a kit and time to pick up your kit. If less than 12 Wrentham residents register than the remaining kits will be distributed on a first come basis to other registrants.

All participants will provide their own small tubes of oil paint (your choice of color), oil solvent, and painter’s tape, as well as, other tools and materials for applying paint and making marks that can be found in your home or easily at local stores. Info is provided on the supply list.

The Wrentham Cultural Council, an agency of the Mass Cultural Council, is providing funding for this Kitchen Table Art Workshop.

My workshops provide an opportunity to gain experience in various techniques and test drive materials as we explore creating your own personal artistic meditation practice. Our goal is to become immersed in and focused on the enjoyment of the process as a means for relaxation.
